Can I be sure of the quality of Drape Net?
Drape Net is manufactured to a high standard of quality. We have personnel that oversee the manufacturing process who have over 35 years of experience and have set strict guidelines with numerous quality control points.
How long are the rolls and how wide can I get them?
The rolls come in lengths of 100 metres. The width of the net is custom made, so any width is possible. Although anything wider than 12 metres will be hard to put through our application machine (NetWizz).
What is the shade factor of Drape Net?
  • White Net: 10% to 12% shading.
  • Green Net: 16% to 18% shading.
  • Black Net: 24% to 26% shading.
How long does Drape Net last?
The net will last 10 years depending on how well the net is looked after. The only things that will deteriorate the net is UV light, which the net has a high level of UV protectant incorporated in the manufacturing process to withstand harsh conditions, and secondly how the net is handled in the field.
Can Drape Net be repaired?
Yes, if there is a tear in the net it can be sewn back together with an industrial hand-held sewing machine which we can supply.
How long does it take to apply the Drape Net?
Once you are set up, 5 people can put out 3 to 5 hectares per day depending on the row spacings and tree heights. You can operate the machine with just 3 people, but it is more productive with 5. To retrieve the net is much faster and you only need 4 people.
How does Drape Net attach to the tree?
Drape Net is attached to the tree with zip ties or bungee cords. Either attaching to a lower limb or back to a trellis wire. This is both easy and inexpensive.
What if my rows are longer than 100 metres long?
If your rows are longer than 100m you can simply sew the next roll on in the field and continue, when you finish the row you just cut the net off and start with this roll on the next row. It is very quick and only needs to be done once, then the net will be the right length for the row for the following season.
Can I hand thin and prune underneath the net?
You can hand thin and prune underneath the net. Just cut off the zip ties and work underneath the net. Even platforms can operate underneath the net with a small modification.
How do sprays penetrate through Drape Net?
We have never had any problems with pest and disease underneath the netting. As long as you are getting good penetration through the tree, you can actually get a better spray coverage with the net. When the spray pushes through the net it causes a tumbling effect, which gives a more even coverage. On the opposite side of the row the net helps keep the spray inside and helps reduce drift.
Does Drape Net affect colour?
In our experience the net does not affect colour in apples. We do suggest though that white net to be used with coloured varieties and black net with green varieties.
Does Drape Net affect the maturity of fruit?
Some years the net can delay maturity depending on the amount of solar radiation that was received through the year. Different fruits re-acts differently, but it is usually a case of delaying harvest to adjust.
Does Drape Net rub on the fruit and cause blemishes?
Sometimes the net does rub against the fruit causing a rub burn. This is rare and the number of fruit affected does not make a difference in pack-outs.
How do we pick come harvest time?
Before harvest you can take the net off the trees retrieving it with the NetWizz applicator. If you are doing multiple picks and want to leave the net on the trees you can pick underneath the net by cutting off the ties or if you prefer you can flip the net up high on the tree and then pull it back down once you have finished.
Where can I store Drape Net?
Once the net has been rolled back up it can be tagged with its corresponding row and then stored away under cover. Or if you do not have space the rolls can easily be shrink wrapped in UV protected plastic and stored at the end of each row.
